“I love old utensils. I find it fascinating that potters used to do exactly what I do. It feels very close, you literally see the fingerprints, the hand of the turner. You see how something was made, how an ear was put on, nothing polished away or smoothed out.”
“Decorating for me is more ‘working the skin.’ I don’t paint flowers. The action while turning, the marks it leaves, is an important part of decoration. I sometimes use coarse clay silt and blue cobalt to work some of the surface.”
